Remembering Rajiv Gandhi

BEGUSARAI (Bihar) : The District Youth Congress organised a blood-donation camp here on 20 August as a homage to Rajiv Gandhi on his 58th birth anniversary. The camp was inaugurated by the district Youth Congress president, Shri Sanjay Kumar, by making first blood donation.

Prominent among the donors were incharge of district organisation Raj Kishore Singh (Chhateji), Anjani Kumar, Parmanand Rai, Prabhakar, Sunil Verma, Jairam Paswan, Anupam Kumar and others.

Youth came in large numbers to donate blood and their enthusiasm showed their commitment to the Congress party and the Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi.

Kurukshetra District Congress Committee president Pawan Garg paying homage to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary

KURUKSHETRA (Haryana) : The district Congress Committee organised a function at the district headquarters here on 20 August to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. On this occasion sapplings were planted and the function was presided over by Shri Pawan Garg and former MP, Shri Tara Singh was the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Garg said that Rajiv Gandhi had dedicated his whole life to the cause of the nation and the Congress workers should emulate him. Shri Tara Singh asked the Congresmen to start a movement against the corrupt and scam-infested Central and Haryana Governments.

Prominent among the audience were former Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harmahendra Singh Chaddha, former minister Devendra Sharma, R.D. Goel, PCC member Rai Sahib Sharma, Congress Sevadal District president Laxmikant Sharma, former MLA Sahib Singh Saini, Ch. Tejpal Mathana, Lal. Pratap Singh, City vice-president Surendra Singhal, Youth Congress president Mahendra Singh, Mahila Congress president Sona Devi, Mahila City president Asha Sharma and media secretary Darshan Khanna.

RANCHI (Jharkhand): The State Youth Congress organised a seminar on "Personality Development and Youth." The programme was presided over by Youth Congress leader Ajay Rai.

Shri P.N. Singh, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the programme by garlanding the photograph of Rajiv Gandhi. Addressing the congregation, Shri Singh said that Shri Rajiv Gandhi was popular with the youth and ruled their hearts.

Gopal Sahu, Surendra Singh, Dilip Tetarve and Ajay Rai also spoke at the seminar. Others present at the seminar were Lal Kishore Nath Sehdev, Ravindra Singh, Prabhakar, Ishwar Chand Jaiswal, Rahul Singh, Shatrughan Rai, Rinku Kumar, Shailendra Singh, Vasi Khan, Kavi Kumar, Parvez Alam, Lav Tiwari and Rajesh Kumar.

GIRIDIH : a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi was organised here on 20 August which was presided over by the District Congress president, Shri Pardhuman Kumar Singh. Homage was paid to Rajiv Gandhi by garlanding his photograph and the Congress workers vowed to follow the path shown by him.

Addressing the gathering Shri Singh said that during the regime of Rajiv Gandhi programmes like space, atomic energy, environment and bio-technology got a boost and stress was put on the use of scientific technology.

Others who were present were vice-president Sukur Passi, Md. Yusaf Ansari, general secretary Anand Kumar Verma, Yamuna Sharma, Khurshid Hasan, Rameshwar Chowdhary, Rajendra Prasad Rai, Chandrashekhar Singh, Dinesh Kumar Singh, Umesh Singh, Balram Viswakarma and Chandramani Rai.

Congress workers donating blood at a camp in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA (Punjab) : The Punjab Congress celebrated the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi as ‘Sadbhavana Diwas’. Homage was paid to him and those who participated included Mayor Nahar Singh Gill, Pawan Diwan Senior, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee member, Shri Jarnail Singh Groval, Punjab Youth Congress Urban Development Cell president Akshay Bhanot, Punjab YC general secretary Balwinder Singh Namdhari, Pradesh Youth Congress general secretary Nirmal Kheda, District Youth Congress Urban Development Cell president Navnesh Malhotra. A photograph of late Rajiv Gandhi was garlanded and a two-minute silence was observed in his memory.

Shri Pawan Diwan asked the youth to rise above caste and creed, language and religion and on this occasion take an oath to bring about harmony. The Youth Congress workers also organised a blood donation camp at the civil hospital. Others present on the occasion were Munish Sharma, Manmohan Walia, Amarjit Singh, Bindra Jaspreet Singh, Manish Tandon, Harmanveer Singh, Baljeet Malra, Charanjeet Singh Sonu, Avtar Singh Kada, Pawan Puri, Prem Passi, Jitendra Nanda, Ashish Jassal, Jaswinder Singh Grewal, Guriqbal Singh Sekhon, Bhupender Singh Grewal and Lakhwinder Singh.

Ujjain DCC SC/ST activists planted sapplings. Participants included Ashok Chaudhry, Bihar PCC Gen. Sec. Anil Sharma, ex-MLA Jayanaryan Pawar, Corporator Sunil Kachwha.

UJJAIN (MP) : Various programmes were organised by the Ujjain DCC Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe Cell. Presiding over a function held here, Bihar Minister of state for Home and Jail, Shri Ashok Choudhary, said that Rajiv Gandhi was a visionary.

Former MP and chief guest, Shri Satyanarain Pawar, said the country made rapid progress during the time of Rajiv Gandhi. Bihar PCC general secretary, Shri Anil Sharma, said that a person can keep living after his death and Rajiv Gandhi proved this.

On this occasion the guests present there offered fruits to the inmates of the Handicap Centre where the meeting was held and later planted sapplings to promote the ‘Green Revolution’ programme started by Rajiv Gandhi. Handicap Ashram president Ram Prasad Gupta, secretary Ramchandra Solpankhi, Narendra Hukanchand Kachwha, Sunil Hukamchand Kachwha, Vijay Yadav, Narendra Lashkari, Sunil Gupta, and others were also present on the occasion.

Congress workers distributing fruits to the downtrodden

BARAUT (UP) : The Congress workers celebrated the birthday of Rajiv Gandhi with pomp and show here on 20 August. The Congress workers also vowed to follow his policies. Remembering Rajiv Gandhi, Shri Rajpal Sharma praised the work style of their beloved leader. PCC member Lata Chaudhary exhorted the youth and people in general to follow the path shown by Rajiv Gandhi. Fruits were also distributed to patients in the local hospital.

Choudhary Ram Kumar Singh presided over the function while Yunas Choudhary acted as convenor. Others present were District Youth Congress general secretary Rakesh Sharma, Vinod Upadhyay, Vijay Pal, Yugal Kishore Garg and Subhash.

Noorpur Block Congress leaders paying homage to Rajivji and Indiraji

Noorpur (HP) : Noorpur Block Congress Committe of Kangra district celebrated the 58th birthday of Rajiv Gandhi as the Communal Harmony Day on 20 August. Shri Sat Mahajan, former PCC president, was the chief guest. About 2500 Congressmen participated in the programme. They recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s visionary policies and commitment to development.

Block President Karan Oberoi lit the lamp and offered garlands to the photographs of late Rajiv Gandhi and late Indira Gandhi. 74-year old Balveer Pathania sang a national song in their honour.
