Favouritism exposed
SHIMLA
: The state Congress Chief Vidya
Stokes said that favouritism in allotment of petrol pumps
and gas agencies has exposed the BJP during her address
to the party workers here on 9 August. She said the Chief
Minister P.K. Dhumal got petrol pump allotted in his son’s
name in Punjab. "What was the need to get a petrol
pump allotted when his son is already running a successful
business in Punjab". Addressing a Congress Kisan rally
at Bhuntar (Kullu) Mrs. Stokes denied any rift in the party.
She criticized the BJP state Government’s move to carve
out new districts.
Presiding over a party
function in Shimla to commemorate the 60th
year of Quit India Movement the state PCC chief said that
some forces were attempting to destroy the secular fabric
of the country by dividing society. She said the country
would prosper only when there is social equality and the
opportunity for all.
The Pradesh Congress Committee
organized an impressive meeting at Shimla to celebrate the
58th birthday
of Rajiv Gandhi. The meeting was presided over by Smt. Vidya
Stokes. CLP Leader Shri Virbhadra Singh and other members
of the Pradesh Congress Committee, District Congress Committee
Shimla and a large number of party workers were present.
Addressing the party workers the PCC chief recalled the
contribution of Rajiv Gandhi and his vision for the 21st
century. She called upon all the party workers to dedicate
themselves for the cause of the poor and deprived people
of the country for whom Rajiv Gandhi lived and died. Shri
Virbhadra Singh also spoke on this occasion and called upon
all the party workers to fight against the divisive and
communal forces which are raising their ugly heads once
again. A blood donation camp was organized on this occasion
and over 70 youths donated the blood.

Plant Sapplings on I-Day

Keshavamurthy planting a sappling on the occasion
of Independence day in Bangalore.

BANGALORE
: Due to efforts of the Karnataka
Pradesh Mahila Congress about 2000 sapplings were planted
by the children in the selected schools in the 33 districts
of the state on Independence Day.
According to the reports available here,
the authorities of all the schools took responsibility to
take care of these plants. The sapplings were of neem, flowers
and fruit trees. A large number of children of these schools
participated in this programme.

JAIPUR
: A meeting of the Rajasthan Pradesh
Congress Committee office-bearers and district presidents
was held here on 10 August at the Congress headquarters.
Addressing the meeting AICC secretary and incharge of Rajasthan,
Shri B.K. Hariprasad, said that by churning scam after scam,
the BJP-led NDA Government is destroying the image of the
country and has put the nation to shame. Shri Hariprasad
said that after the Tehelka bribery, UTI scam, Telecom and
coffin scam, the petrol pump scam has come in front of the
people. He said that by cancelling the allotment made after
2000, the Prime Minister has proved that there was lot of
bungling in the petrol pump scam.
The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee
president, Dr. Girija Vyas, while talking about the prevailing
drought situation in the state said that the Central Government
was paying no heed to the financial request by the state.
The PCC vice-president and Food Minister, Shri Janardhan
Singh Gehlot, also addressed the meeting. Thereafter, on
16 August, the Congress workers sat on a token dharna in
the state capital and all district headquarters against
the petrol pump and gas agencies scam.
