Sonia
Gandhi’s Victory
Under
the leadership of the Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi
the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance has formed
the government at the Centre and now the slogan of the Congress
president, ‘Congress ka haath, Garib ke saath’ will take
concrete shape. The election results have proved the exit
poll results wrong. For this victory the credit goes to
Smt. Sonia Gandhi and I, on behalf of the Mansa District
Congress Committee, congratulate her.

A
True Example
UPA
chairperson and Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi’s
life is like a perennial river which despite all hindrances
and obstacles keeps flowing. The flow in her life has made
Congress more purposeful. She works selflessly and with
devotion. This was evident during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections
when she launched a mass contact campaign and continued
it despite several odds. Smt. Sonia Gandhi has become a
true example of service.

Big
Jolt to Communalists
The
people of India have given a big jolt to the forces of communalism.
They do not tolerate people who play politics of caste and
religion. Can the construction of mandir help in getting
employment to the unemployed or help the sick? How can people
from communal forces like the BJP or RSS become the soldiers
of India.
In
comparison, the Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi does
not believe in the politics of deceit to get votes. Her
politics is based on love for the nation, devotion and sacrifice.
She does not crave for the prime minister’s chair and this
she has proved by not accepting the post. For the development
and progress of the nation, Congress does not require cruches;
it can stand on its own legs. Therefore, the party should
give an opportunity to the rare breed of intelligent and
talented people to lead the party so that the reins stay
in Congress’ hand.

National
Party Status
Presence
of too many parties in the political arena is contrary to
an ideal democracy of two-party system. EC should rather
tighten rules so that every state is given proper weightage
according to its population while considering state’s share
in recognizing political parties on the lines of MLAs’ votes
in presidential election.
Or
a simple formula should be to have either at least ten-percent
members in Lok Sabha/ Vidhan Sabha or minimum twenty percent
votes at national/ state level for political parties to
be recognized at national/ state level respectively. System
will check hazardous trend of emergence of large number
of political parties mainly due to selfish interests of
over-ambitious politicians. Since political parties make
tall but fake assurances for vote-snatching by befooling
voters, rules should be tightened to provide legal status
to election manifestos. If ruling parties fail to fulfill
dreams highlighted in manifestoes, then Election Commission
may be empowered even to the extent to derecognise such
parties.

Jobs
Vs. Population
It
was shocking to read in newspapers that 10,000 people, with
degrees of MBA, BSc, BE and graduates, applied for just
two posts of peon. This shows the extent of frustration
in our youth who study with the hope of making a good career.
If this is the state of the job-seekers now, one can imagine
what will be the future of our youth. Why has this situation
arisen? It is for the government to give a serious thought
and work towards stopping population explosion. Unless population
is controlled the problem of unemployment cannot be solved.
I think this issue must get highest priority.
