Kranti Jyoti Padayatra

DEHRADUN: The Dehradun City Congress Committee took out a rally in remembrance of Uttarakhand martyrs. Addressing the participants, Uttaranchal PCC president, Shri Harish Rawat, said that the Congress workers would submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister for constructing a memorial in remembrance of the martyrs of Uttarakhand. Among those who participated in the padayatra included state transport minister, Shri Hira Singh Bisht, Agriculture minister, Shri Mahendra Singh Mahra, Shri Joth Singh Bisht, Shri O.P. Chauhan, Shri Lal Chand Sharma and others.

On 20 August, the Uttaranchal Pradesh Congress Committee paid floral tributes to Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his 59th birth anniversary. Dehradun Metropolitan Congress president, Shri Lal Chand Sharma, recalled the former Prime Minister’s contribution for the unity of the country. "His name is written in golden letters in the history of India. His sacrifice will be remembered for ages," said Shri Sharma.

WARANGAL: The Warangal City Congress Committee took out the Kranti Jyoti Yatra in the city to coincide with the Quit India Movement from 9 August to 14 August. The padayatra commenced from near the Warangal Railway station where the statue of Mahatama Gandhi was garlanded and a large number of Congress workers and leaders participated. Thereafter, the freedom fighters were felicitated and the torch (Jyoti) was lit by one of the freedom fighters. A big rally was then taken out upto the statue of Rajiv Gandhi near MGM hospital in which nearly 1000 Congress leaders and workers took part. A public meeting was held after the conclusion of the rally.

The yatras were conducted the following days in various parts of the city and a huge rally was taken out in Hanamkanda. Patriotic songs were played through public address system to commensurate with the ‘Quit India Movement’. According to City Congress Committee president, Dr. Hari Rama Devi the rally was in response to the nation-wide call given by the Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi.

JHARKHAND: The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee Labour Cell organized a Kranti Jyoti Padayatra on August 9 under the leadership of the Cell president, Shri Vishnu Kumar Kamat, in Singhghora. Party workers visited every residence and disseminated information relating to the work done by the Congress party under the dynamic leadership of Smt. Sonia Gandhi.

The office bearers of the JPCC Labour Cell fanned in the city, displaying the photographs of Father of the Nation, Mahatama Gandhi, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Jawaharlal Nehru and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The JPCC vice-president, Shri Kishan Khanna, Smt. Mumtaz Ahmed, Shri Dev Ashish Mukhi, Shri Nitai Baduk, Shri Pradeep Rai and other participated in the padayatra.
