Hundred
and thirty one years ago was born, this month, a man
who was both a saint and revolutionary. Mohandas Karam
Chand Gandhi had changed the course of history and the
face of the world in his own life time like no one ever
had. In an era marked by violence, oppression and greed,
he chose a path that disarmed the mightiest. Mahatma
Gandhi was a world teacher who preached and practised
love and benediction to prove that violence breeds violence.
The path he had tread has now become a way of life for
the humanity. We remember with reverance, this month,
another great son of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri - an
epitome of simplicity, integrity and selfless service.
It was in this month, 16 years ago Indira Gandhi — the
stateswoman who steered India during one of its worst
periods of contemporary history to place it and its
democracy on a firm footing. Her achievements are numerous
and her contribution will be remembered for generations.
She was rightly adjudged "The Greatest Woman of the
Millennium"...

inferior or untouchable because of his birth, can command one's
allegiance, says Praveen Davar, writing on religious thoughts
