Sonia Gandhi asks States to Stop
Playing Politics

RAE BARELI : The Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi called upon state governments to stop playing politics and join hands for the development of the people.

Addressing a gathering at the Feroze Gandhi Polytechnic here, on 15 September, the second day of her three-day mass contact programme in her parliamentary constituency, Smt. Gandhi said Uttar Pradesh could not develop because parties in power were pre-occupied with politics. People wanted development and employment and were not interested in politics, she said.

Smt. Gandhi inaugurated a Java Technology Training programme at the polytechnic and said the future lay in IT and computers.

The Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, said on September 16 at Rae Bareli that the Government would find out if there was any goof-up in the release of the Census figures.

"The Centre will look into the census report and an inquiry would be held if any discrepancy is found," she said when asked whether the Centre would enquire into the goof-up in the release of the census figures.

Asked whether her party would consider withdrawing support to the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government in Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Gandhi said "there is no such proposal."
