A Unique Sacrifice by Sonia Gandhi

The Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has not only made the party proud but also the nation in the eyes of the world. Her refusal to take-up the post of Prime Minister of largest democracy in the world, is first of its kind in world history. This is truly amazing in todayÕs political atmosphere where leaders are out to grab power. I am fully confident that under the leadership of the Congress Party, India will become a great source of inspiration for others.

An Example Without Parallel

The Jansampark Abhiyaan taken up by Smt. Sonia Gandhi during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections reflects her concern for the masses. Overcoming all obstacles she brought victory to the Congress. And by refusing to take the post of prime minister, she has set an example of sacrifice which has no equal.

Rampant Social Evils

Cheating, black-marketeering and bribery have become rampant throughout the nation. To get jobs even in the army and the Railways, one has to pay bribes. This being the fact, poor educated youth are denied the chance of employment. The system of dowry is also prevalent in our society and due to this girls from poor families are exploited and even killed or burnt alive. It is hoped that with Congress-led government at the Centre, these social evils will be removed and the situation will improve.

Welcome Organisational Changes

After the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi brought about changes in the organisation which has narrowed down the difference between veteran senior leaders and the youth. This is quite on encouraging move which strengthens the party and its image among the masses. The youth feel encouraged by making Shri Rahul Gandhi a co-opted member of the AICC. Likewise, the party can grow stronger if a respectable post is given to Smt. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Remarks on PM Unfair

The BJP leaders should refrain from playing dirty politics. Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Smt. Uma BharatiÕs comments that prime minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh is directionless and incapable of taking decisions is totally wrong. Dr. Singh is a learned, intelligent and honest prime minister. He has been chosen the Prime Minister on the basis of his qualities and qualifications. I have faith in this government and believe that it will complete its full term in office.

Mass Contact Important

Some Congressmen think that it will be a sure victory for the Congress in Jharkhand in the coming Assembly elections. But the fact is that our grassroot workers are not active in their areas. One cannot win elections just by talking. It is important that all those desirous of fighting elections should, alongwith other party workers, go amongst the public and make contacts on personal level.

Hunger Deaths in Saharia

In the short span of BJP rule in Rajasthan there have been several incidents of hunger deaths. As many as 27 hunger deaths are reported in Saharia adivasi area of Baran district and the local administration is trying to cover up the facts. The government machinery is trying to repress Congressmen and the media persons who are highlighting this tragedy. The adivasis are forced to eat grass for their survival. When Congress was in power in the state there were no such hunger deaths in the state. I would also like that Rajasthani language be given due recognition at it is spoken by 5 crore people and would help Marwaris in the future.
