The President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and the Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi with Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, recipient of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration and Management Studies at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Shastriji's 99th birth anniversary.	The Delhi chief minister, Smt. Sheila Dikshit laid the foundation stone of the Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women in East Delhi on 27 September. Also seen are DU vice-chancellor, Prof. Deepak Nayyar, Shri Brahmpal, MLA, Praveen Massy, Councillor, Prof. Md. Amin and Shri Bhim Sain Arora, Treasurer of the College.
The Kamaraj Centenary celebrations were held in Coimbatore West constituency, Tamil Nadu on 19 July. CWC member, Shri Arjun Singh delivered the keynote address and also distributed cheques under the welfare schemes to poor and the downtrodden. The function was attended among others by Shri R. Prabhu, ex-Minister, Shri EVKS Elangovan, working president, TNCC and Shri Kumari Anandan, ex-president, TNCC and many others.

Singh honoured mother and sister of Kargil martyr Vinay Kumar here on 14 August. Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary, Shri Vajibhai Bagda, to draw the attention of the Government and the Railway Ministry in a novel way travelled in the train from Rajkot to Delhi equipped with a helmet, first aid box, hooks and rope, rubber tube, iron cutter and a fire extinguisher as precautionary steps to show how unsafe the Indian Railways is. Congressmen led by Shri Abhay Kumar Singh `Tinku' during the padayatra organised in Avanla Tehsil in Barielly district of Uttar Pradesh.
