The
Mahila Congress had a very busy month of September and October,
2001. Besides its usual activities, state level political
training camps are going on, as well as its election-related
work in UP and Punjab.
The
57th
birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was
marked with several functions like blood donation camps,
medical camps, visits to slum areas, hospitals and old peoples’
homes and distribution of fuits, sweets, study materials,
etc. to weaker sections of society. While a free medical
camp at Indira Basti Vikas Kendra at Andrews Ganj, New Delhi,
co-operated by the Delhi TB Association and the Mahila Pratirksha
Mandal was organised where a team of 60 doctors from Sir
Ganga Ram Hospital treated more than 1,000 patients, and
free medicines were distributed.
All
the state level Mahila Congress training camps had senior
Congress leaders and illuminaries from various fields who
imparted valuable training to the participants. The Punjab
State Camp was held at Ludhiana on August 10 and 11 and
the coordinated was Mrs. Renu Nagar. The function was presided
over by the AIMC president and the inaugural speech was
given by Mr. Motilal Vora, Treasurer AICC, Mr. Praveen Davar,
Secretary AICC Ex-Servicemen Cell.
The
MP State Camp held at Bhopal on the August 17 and 18 was
presided over by Mrs. Chandresh Kumari, with Mr. Digvijay
Singh, CM Madhya Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. Lashing out
at the Central Government Mrs. Kumari advised appointment
of two women per polling booth, who would visit residences
in the booth-area assessing the women’s situation, informing
the shortcomings of the administration, and helping needy
women through various government schemes. The Madhya Pradesh
CM said that two members from the Mahila Congress would
be on the Task Force for the new Women’s Policy. He informed
of the efforts made in MP to uplift the women’s lot.
The
Rajasthan State Mahila Congress political training camp
was organised on August 24 and 25 at Jaipur. The first day
function was presided over by Mrs. Chandresh Kumari, after
the inauguration by Mr. Mahavir Prasad, general secretary
AICC, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Chief Guest, Shri Ashok Gehlot,
CM Rajasthan, Mr. Daljit Singh, secretary AICC, Mrs. Zakia,
Minister, Mrs. Rama Pilot, MP, Dr. Veena Acharya and Mrs.
Neelima Krishna addressed the participants. On the second
day, RPCC president, Dr. Giriji Vyas, presided over the
first session while Mr. Mukul Wasnik, member CWC, presided
over the second session. Mr. Nawal Kishor Sharma, Mrs. Margaret
Alva, Mr. K.K. Sharma, Justice I.S. Israni, ex-Judge High
Court, Mrs. Shanti Pahadia, RPCC vice-president, Mrs. Indira
Maya Ram and Mrs. Kamla, Ministers Mrs. Sudhindra Jain also
addressed on the second day.
On
25 and 26 August, the Haryana State level training camp
was held at Samalakha, 2001. The Chief Guest and main speakers
on the first day were CWC member, Mrs. Mohsina Kidwai, AICC
secretary, Mr. Satyajit Gaekwad, the HPCC president, Mr.
B.S. Hooda, Mrs. Pritam Arora, the then vice-president AIMC,
MLAs Dr. J.P. Sharma and Mr. Balbir Prasad Shah, Mrs. Kartar
Devi (ex-Minister), Dr. (Mrs.) Krishna Pandit (eminent surgeon)
and Mrs. Kiran Bala Jain, Advocate. The second day session
was inaugurated by Mrs. Chandresh Kumari and was attended
by Mrs. Mohsina Kidwai and Mr. Mukul Wasnik, Leader of Opposition,
Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Ch. Bhajan Lal, Chairman AICC Political
Training Department, Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar, Mr. K.K. Sharma
and Kumari Selja, ex-Minister, Ch. Birender Singh, MLA,
Mr. Mange Ram Gupta, Adv. Mrs. Daya Choudhary and Dr. (Mrs.)
Prabha Aggarwal.
The
Jharkhand Pradesh Mahila Congress State level training camp
was held at Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Bhawan, Ranchi, on the
2 and 3 September. The session on the first day was inaugurated
by AICC secretary, Mr. Chandan Bagchi with AIMC general
secretaries, Ms. Shika Kapoor and Mrs. Abha Sinha, member
JPCC, Mr. J.P. Choudhary, Sardar Baldev Singh, Dr. RC Jha
(eminent physician), Mrs. Pramodini Hasda, Mr. Balbir Datt
(journalist), Mr. Pradeep Tulsyan, Mr. R.P. Raja, Mr. Lalji
Sahai (Advocate), JPYC president, Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar,
etc. addressing the participants.
In
view of the forthcoming elections, the AIMC has sent its
members to all districts of different mandals in UP and
Punjab, for forming election committees with two activists
per Vidhan Sabha with an aim of having atleast two lady
activists per polling booth. The AIMC observers for the
UP mandal were Mrs. Usha Krishna Kumar (Lucknow), Mrs. Shika
Kapoor (Vanaras & Mirzapoor), Dr. Jaya Shukla (Azamgarh),
Dr. Sushma yadav (Agra), Mrs. Krishna Ghelawat (Bareily),
Mrs. Prassani Devi (Muradabad), Ms. Sayeeda Khatoon (Gorakhpur),
Mrs. Harshraj Dewara (Chitrakoot), Mrs. Usha Meena (Basti),
Mrs. Manju Hembram (Faizabad), Mrs. Kamalakshi Sarma (Allahabad),
Mrs. Kamala Mann (Saharanpur), Mrs. Arti Bhadoria (Jhansi).
The AIMC observers for Punjab state mandals were Mrs. Varyam
Kaur, Mrs. Raj Sachdeva and Mrs. Renu Nagar Poswal. o
