Raising
False Hopes
This
refers to the usual gimmick of the Independence Day (ID)
speech by the Prime Minister giving untrue account of economic
condition, and raising false hopes for a better tomorrow.
Both the President and the Prime Minister made big announcements
in their earlier speeches for sure passing of Women Reservation
Bill. But since government also knows the art of postponing
such decorative bills either in the name of consensus, or
by managing disruption in Parliament even by its own allies
if the Opposition does not oblige, the Prime Minister need
not to worry about after-effects of such bills like Lokpal
Bill. This bill has been hanging fire since it was first
introduced in 1969, and cannot be hoped to be passed by
Parliament.
The
Prime Minister expects discipline from the Opposition. But
in this unholy era of coalition governments, he has to run
his government with pulls and pressures from his own allies.
It is the friend DMK and not the Opposition, which has not
allowed Parliament to function for the last some days. Supremacy
of ‘big’ leaders in our present political system encourages
opportunist politicians to drag ordinary MPs to dance to
their tunes. We are facing worst of democratic system of
administration which is only quantitative, and not at all
qualitative. This system can breed only corruption and inefficiency.
Nobody should expect ‘the sun coming out with better tomorrow
awaiting us’ in a system dominated by corrupt, characterless
and selfish leaders.

Yeoman
Service
This
is to inform you that I receive the ‘Congress Sandesh’ promptly
month after month and I would also like to inform that this
magazine is doing a yeoman service to the party and keeps
the party workers well informed about the activities of
the Congress. I am very much impressed by the ‘Congress
Sandesh’ which is well accepted by the party workers.

Rajiv
Gandhi - A Great Hero
“As
we build today so will be tomorrow. Together we will build
an India of the 21st Century...” who could but Rajiv Gandhi
dream of a new India by channalising the fire burning inside
each Congress worker into productive and social activities.
His
words, “I am young, and I too have a dream. I dream of an
India - strong, independent, self-reliant and in the front
rank of the nations of the world in the service of mankind”
echo in our minds as we celebrated his 57th birth anniversary
on August 20.
It
was Rajiv Gandhi’s intellect and farsightedness that today
we are availing of the services of computers, being in the
forefront of Information Technology in the world.
While
Rajiv Gandhi had a vision of 21st century, the then leaders
of the rival parties left no stone unturned to oppose his
plans of computerization and introduction of IT. Today if
we are talking of IT age, all the credit goes to Rajiv Gandhi.
The nation salutes this great hero of this era.

A
Good Job
I
am proud to say that the ‘Congress Sandesh’ is doing a tremendous
job in keeping the spirit of togetherness alive within the
Congress party throughout the country. It is, no doubt,
an effective medium which keeps the party workers well-informed
with its informative news about the activities of the Congress
throughout the nation.
The
party activities in Gujarat have picked up momentum and
I would request that more coverage be given to the Gujarat
state so that the party workers feel encouraged and continue
their good work to achieve goal of bringing back Congress
government in the State.
