A Symbol of Service

In the Lok Sabha elections-2004, the Indian voters accepted Soniaji. But at that moment of glory, she humbly declined the high office of Prime Minister, choosing to follow her "inner voice". It was a show of courage and commitment to the nation. Soniaji is the glue that holds the Congress party together. This is the reason why the foreign origin factor of Soniaji has become so important for the BJP. By renunciation, Soniaji has proved all of them wrong that she was power-hungry. Moreover, she has restored the faith of the people of the country in a pluralistic polity. Soniaji has lessons to teach not merely the politicians, but also to the power-hungry people at various places; she has introduced moral principles into the blood-stream of Indian politics.

A nation is not only led by it sleaders, it lives through its leaders' ability to breathe life into it. Soniaji has understood that the key to governance is to strive for the welfare of the people.

The words Soniaji said still reverberate in my ears when she said, "I have always said that personal power and positions are not my objectives but performing duties in a spirit of true service and trustworthiness and placing the country and the people before itself."

Delhi: Unfinished Task

Delhi has seen a sea-change after the coming of Congress to power in Delhi Government and the Corporation. I would like to congratulate Delhi Chief Minister, Smt. Sheila Dikshit for giving the people of Delhi the much-needed flyovers and for implementing the Metro train project efficiently.

However, there are some areas where the Delhi government needs to pay attention. The open drains, which are running through the city and are a perennial health hazard, should be covered to complete the beautification of the Capital.

Rajasthan Govt. Failed

The BJP government in Rajasthan has proved a failure on all fronts. The law and order situation in the state is deteriorating rapidly. Corruption is rampant. Atrocities on women is on the increase. There is fear among scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. Recently, the state police gunned down farmers who were demanding water for irrigation in Sriganganagar in which four farmers lost their lives and dozens of them got injured. This government should thus be dismissed immediately.

Congress Will Win in Jharkhand Too

The way Congress alliance has won Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra, it will achieve a glorious victory in Jharkhand because Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi played decisive role in the formation of this state.

In the last Lok Sabha elections the Congress alliance bagged 13 out of 14 seats due to the charismatic leadership of Smt. Sonia Gandhi. No panchayat and municipal elections have been held so far after the formation of the state and thus the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi are yet to be fulfilled. The Central government should intervene and see that panchayat and municipal elections are held at the earliest as the BJP government seems not

interested in holding these elections.
