Letter
to Congress Workers
Dear
Friends,
I
am happy the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ our party organised in Uttar
Pradesh last month was a huge success. Our leaders and workers
organised themselves into several groups and spanned the
entire length and breadth of the state covering every block
and district. The aim was to get a first-hand impression
of the concerns of the people, to place before them the
problems and issues facing the nation and the State and
to inform them about the corrupt practices and misguided
policies of the BJP-led governments at the Centre and the
State.
We
launched the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ to expose the dismal condition
of the people and a total lack of developmental activity.
The growing shortage of power and water has increased the
misery of the people and multiplied the suffering of the
farmers. Unmindful of people’s pitiable plight, the BJP
is engaged in communal politics. Uttar Pradesh has paid
a very high price for handing over power to the BJP.
That
the people have realised this could be seen from the overwhelming
response to the ‘Parivartan Yatra’. They came in thousands
to attend our rallies and public meetings. The masses of
Uttar Pradesh are totally disenchanted with the BJP and
its rule. Time has now come for a change. The forthcoming
Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will provide the right
opportunity to correct this unfortunate aberration. Our
party workers must carry forward the message of the ‘Parivartan
Yatra’ and ensure that the people’s desire for change is
fulfilled. The Congress party alone has the commitment and
capacity to identify with the people, and to fulfill their
hopes and aspirations.
We
are all distressed at the loss of innocent lives in Afghanistan.
Our party has unequivocally condemned the terrorist attacks
in New York and Washington. The sooner the agony and tragedy
of Afghanistan is ended the better. It is our hope that
a post Taliban Afghanistan will have government, which will
be representative of all segments of Afghan society.
This
month we pay tributes to two great builders of modern India,
Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. The nation owes so much
to them. The best way to pay our respects is to follow their
secular, socialist and democratic vision.
