History

Gujarat continues to burn. Though two months have passed since blood-thirsty communal forces struck taking a heavy toll of human lives, there is no sign yet of peace. The tales of atrocities committed in the State, even in villages, have spread far and wide. So much so, some western countries have expressed anger against the mindless violence and blatant violation of human rights. The reputation of India as a tolerant society and its image as an apostle of peace have suffered. The Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, was the first to condemn the violence and demanded immediate removal of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The recalcitrant BJP refused the sane advice. The result is unabated violence. The Congress Party held rallies all over the country to press its demand. The forthcoming AICC session in Delhi will discuss this and other issues to chalkout the future course of action.
