Voice of the People for Communal Togetherness

Our nation’s very constitutional existence is in danger. Innocent lives are lost due to senseless communal fury. Is this Justice? ‘Might is Right’ has become the rule of the day. Is this Liberty? Fanning the fire of religious fanaticism to establish supremacy. Is this Equality? The secular fabric of the nation is being ripped apart. Is this Fraternity?

The very constitution of India stands on the pillars of these four words that constitute the foundation - the Preamble. The time has come for serious introspection – at all levels and spheres of our Indian society. The situation is so volatile that possibilities of a civil war hovering on the Indian social skyline cannot be ruled out. Protests, criticism, arguments, inside and outside the Parliament can no longer contain or defuse this brutal attitude. No positive efforts are being taken to uphold the sanctity of the Constitution and reach out to the masses.

The nation has unfortunately lost its complexion in the global eye. The gross misuse of the very essence of our democracy, which is the largest in the world is intolerable. Cross border terrorism in connivance with its domestic counterparts has caused enough damage to our motherland. At home, the volcanic eruption of communalism has fragmented our peaceful coexistence. The disrupters don’t come on their own. They are the creation of masterminds bent on de-stabilising our country. Asylums provided to such unwanted elements protectively garb them from the hands of law and enthuse them to further destruction. The vulnerable situation that has been created due to this is again prone to recurring terrorist and suppressive activities that can leave a permanent scar on our nation.

The injured nation needs ‘Intensive Care’ under the direct supervision of the liberal far-sighted Indian and the judiciary for speedy recovery and protection from communal conflicts and related nefarious activities. The very expression of fundamental rights of the near total population, who cannot retaliate by taking law in their own hands, is gagged by a handful of fanatic leaders. Should such organisations under law be allowed to fan the communal fire?

We need honest role models in society as it is natural for the youth to have the daring to plan, the irresistable urge to act, the enthusiasm to conceive, the energy to work along with their natural impatience at all the insufficiencies and ugly defects and the lack of job opportunities that they find in the world all around. To channelise these, the youth must be trained and guided through honesty to study the problems of life and to evalute each of them correctly.

This calls for a special mental balance. With such a balanced mind and intellect, the youth will be able to arrive at potentially creative judgements and constructive conclusions.

Realising this truth, the religious masters, taught that Vedanta is the art of living and it can be pursued under all circumstances, at all places, whether it be in a house, factory, field or temple. They teach us to cultivate a habit to get an insight into the great philosophy of Hinduism and maintain a spiritual curiosity to reform and reconstruct our inner equipment of experience. "Master the mind, and you master the world" was the slogan of spiritual masters.

The voice of liberal India is throttled. Co-existence doesn’t mean what the RSS said that "Hindu goodwill is the key to Muslim safety". The essence of humanity is the strength in the land of Vedanta where the true Hindu is the seeker of the higher-self. God has never divided men as the natural forces have no boundries.

The nation cannot be an idle and mute spectator anymore. This is not the stage for political activities but constitutional activities to imbibe the virtue of patriotism. The national character must be resurrected. Yet another Freedom Struggle has to be fought. Yet another Quit India movement needs to be fuelled to weed out terrorism, communalism and corruption and to ban anti-social organisations is important.

Out of deep respect to our revered Constitution emerging from the rivers of blood of our freedom fighters, we appeal in the name of Insaniyat as there is no alternative to the truth. Together, we the people of the largest democracy of the world want to work, forgive the past and pray for right thinking … a human power. It is in this truth that the future lies.
