Letter to the Editor

True Sandesh

I am very happy to receive a copy of Congress Sandesh recently. I am glad to read that our beloved leader and the Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi in her letter for Congressmen like me presents her views and policies of the party. Besides this, Editorial is also written in such a way which inspires us to work with full commitment and dedication for the party. Together they are like light in the tunnel for ordinary Congressmen and provides them with a clear direction and guidance.

I would like this magazine which was started by Smt. Sonia Gandhi to flourish and disseminate the light of knowledge in all directions and serve as a link for the unity and integration in the party.

I also request senior leaders of the party to look into the problems of ordinary Congress workers who are living in far off places and try to solve them.

Good Job, Sandesh

I am in receipt of January, 2005 issue of the Congress Sandesh. It contains very useful information about organizational activities, action plans and national news. As a Congressmen, I congratulate all the members of the editorial team, who despite limited space of the magazine have successfully produced a brilliant nation-wide multi-faceted picture of party activities.

The extensive report on the relief work carried out by the Congress party for tsunami victims and the steps taken by Smt. Sonia Gandhi in this regard are truly commendable. Congressmen are inspired by this report. I hope the next issue too will carry current news and enlightening articles.

Indian POWs in Pakistan

Certainly, we should be friends with our neighbours like Pakistan, but not at the cost of our patriots who have fought for our country. Today, as many as 182 prisoners of war are languishing in Pakistani jails since 1971. Alongwith them thousands of Indian fishermen are also confined in various Pakistani jails. Their boats too have been confiscated. During our peace efforts with Pakistan these issues should be kept in mind and see that they are released at the earliest.

Too many parties

The emergence of many regional parties in the last two decades is not a pleasant indication for Indian politics and in the interest of the country. The ideal condition for the largest democracy of the world should have limited parties with basic recognition in the country. Only Congress party fulfills this criteria. This factor has given rise to coalition governments which make desirable and undesirable agreements which may be harmful for democracy. The mature political thinking of the Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, has set an example by bringing in Left parties in the UPA coalition.

Preserve our Heritage

The Sewagram situated `Bapu Kutir' where the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi used to live and which has been referred several times during the independence struggle, is today in a shabby condition. The Sewagram Ashram, from where Bapu sent out the message of truth and non-violence, has been totally neglected. The Bapu Kutir which has its roof of bamboo and wooden logs is in a dilapidated condition and may come down any day as termites are feasting on it. Similarly, the `Bakuli' tree under which Bapu used to have his sun-bath is also under attack of termites. My only appeal to the government is to preserve these treasures of heritage which are so priceless in our history.
