Letter to the Editor

Excellent Issue

The Congress Sandesh issue of May, 2004 is excellent with attractive cover page and absorbing and informative news items. The Congress president’s interview published in Hindustan Times sends a true message to the Congress workers. Smt. Gandhi’s letter to workers in very encouraging. The journal has maintained a good standard, style and covers state news in a balanced manner. I hope to see the journal makes even more progress.

Secular Efforts

Active participation of Smt. Sonia Gandhi in politics has led to the formation of a secular govt. at the Centre. The Congress president has won the confidence and love of people through hard work and commitment to the cause of the poor.

Her ‘Jan Sampark’ campaigns and road shows in various states have brought her closer to the people who immediately formed a bond with her by reposing faith in her endeavour to strengthen the secular fabric of the country.

The people of Uttar Pradesh are realizing the significance of the pro-poor Congress party. I am sure the party will once again form a government in U.P.

People of India are still in awe at Smt. Sonia Gandhi’s decision to decline the prime ministership. She has given a befitting reply to all those who accused her of being power-hungry.

Kudos to Sonia Gandhi

All kudos to Smt. Sonia Gandhi for bringing victory to the Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections. The people of the country have honoured the Congress party and the Gandhi family who have a major contribution during the freedom movement. The people have supported the programmes and policies adopted by the Congress party for national development after independence.

Historic Decision

No one in the Congress party, from small grass-root worker to office-bearer of the AICC, ever thought that Congress would come to power at the Centre. It was but for Smt. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president, who despite taking all the criticism of the BJP and its allies, both political and personal, steered the party to victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Nobody ever thought that Smt. Sonia Gandhi would take a strong decision by refusing to become the prime minister. I think this example of sacrifice set by the Congress president is unparallel in history throughout the world.

Exemplary Step

The Congress president, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has set an example of the highest order in history by refusing to become the prime minister of India. On the other hand, despite facing humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections the BJP leader Atal Behari Vajpayee said that they would not sit in the opposition for five years and would soon come back to power. By this statement they have shown that how hungry they are for power. By the sacrifice of Smt. Sonia Gandhi the people of the country have developed more trust and faith in her.

Demand for Stamp

Cooperative movement has made its impact not only in India but abroad also. The renowned movement was meant to protect poor farmers and labourers from the clutches of moneylenders and the middlemen. The Cooperative movement globally has earned a distinction in itself and which cannot be forgotten. Thus, on behalf of the people attached with the cooperative movement, I request the Union Cooperative Minister to issue stamps in favour of the ‘Cooperative Movement.’
