Hanspal Asks Ministers to Submit Reports

CHANDIGARH : The first extended meeting of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee was held at the Congress Bhawan here on 12 May under the presidentship of Punjab PCC chief, Shri Harvinder Singh Hanspal, according to Jalandhar PCC vice-president and Media incharge, Shri Sanjay Sehgal.

The meeting passed two resolutions, one condemning the Centre for not lifting the sugar stock worth Rs. 730 crores and the other criticizing the Union Government for freezing the wheat procurement price. Earlier, Shri Hanspal expressed resentment over the state ministers holding important portfolios for not sharing information with party leaders on various projects and schemes launched by their respective departments.

Shri Hanspal directed all ministers to submit details of all programmes and schemes and to prepare pamphlets and booklets of such programmes and schemes to be distributed among the people. The party leaders also pointed out that the party workers were not given due respect in the field by government officers and the police department. Shri Hanspal also disclosed that the Congress Government of the state had released 30,600 power connections for tubewells in the past one year.

AICC general secretary and incharge of party affairs in Punjab, Smt. Mohsina Kidwai said the Congress party would go it alone in the forthcoming Assembly elections. The party high command was satisfied with the performance of the Punjab government, Smt. Kidwai said but added that the party did not approve the Punjab government’s plan to set-up Casinos.

Smt. Ambika Soni, AICC general secretary, also spoke at the meeting and objected to the Punjab government’s decision to do away with free education for girls and urged the state government to restore the facility. Smt. Soni also asked the state finance minister, Shri Lal Singh to arrange funds for timely and regular payments to non-government pensioners and pension to elders.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Capt. Amrinder Singh, the Pradesh Congress Committee ex-presidents, office-bearers, all district Congress Committee presidents and MLAs.
