new Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Municipal
Corporation of Delhi.
Shri
Goel defeated his Bharatiya Janata Party rival, Vijender

14 Congress councillors and one BJP. Three seats had fallen
vacant recently after the resignation of the three Congress

before the election, the three other Congress candidates
who were in the fray for the post _ the Deputy Chairman

was cleared by the party high command, the Congress Councillors
in the Standing Committee held a formal meeting to elect
their new chairman. The senior Congress leader, Shri Sajjan
Kumar, and the former Standing Committee Chairman, Shri
Ram Babu Sharma, were deputed by the Delhi Pradesh Congress
