Exhorted to Combat Communalism, Castesim
The
last month of the year commenced with a visit to Uttaranchal
by the Chairman, AICC Ex-Servicemen Cell, Lt. Gen. M.M.
Lakhera who addressed a number of meetings of Ex-Servicemen
in Tehri Garhwal from 3rd to 5th December.
The meetings were held in Chham, Chenayali Saur, Lamgaon,
Tehri, Chamba, Ranipokhri and Bhaniyawala. Gen. Lakhera
made the ex-servicemen aware of the new concessions given
to ex-servicemen by the Uttaranchal Government, especially
the creation of an Ex-Servicemen Welfare Corporation, a
proposal which was submitted to the State Government by
the AICC Ex-Servicemen Cell. He appealed to the ex-servicemen
not to get disheartened as the implementation of various
policies and programmes announced by the State Government
takes time in execution and implementation. Amongst those
who accompanied Gen. Lakhera in Tehri Garhwal were Shri
Jyot Singh Bisht, general secretary, Uttaranchal PCC, Shri
Gopal Chamoli, working president, DCC Tehri Garhwal and
Col. Vijay Ghildyal, chairman, Uttaranchal PCC Ex-Servicemen
Cell.
Capt.
Praveen Davar, Secretary, AICC Ex-Servicemen Cell presided
over a large regional meeting of Ex-Servicemen in Mau organized
by Col. Bharat Singh, Shaurya Chakra, chairman, UPCC
Ex-Servicemen Cell. Dr. Sanjay Singh, senior UP Congress
leader was the chief guest at the function in which ex-servicemen
from the districts of Mau, Azamgarh, Ballia, Etah, Ghazipur
and Deoria participated.
Addressing
the over 4000 strong crowd of ex-servicemen, Dr. Sanjay
Singh condemned the non-Congress governments in the State
for neglecting the welfare of ex-servicemen who, he said,
were looked after only by the Congress whenever it was in
power, whether it was in power, whether in the Centre or
in the State. Dr. Sanjay Singh warned that if the ex-servicemen
are denied their dues the consequences will not be healthy
for the State. Amidst land applause, he said that the nation
will never forget the sacrifices and services of the soldiers,
and the Congress Party will spare no effort in providing
justice to the ex-servicemen.
Capt.
Praveen davar, while giving details of the activities of
the Congress Ex-Servicemen Cell since 1967 when it was first
constituted, paid glowing tributes to the memory of late
Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi and Shri Rajiv Gandhi
who, he emphasized, always gave the highest priority to
the well being of the ex-servicemen. Capt. Davar appealed
to the ex-servicemen to rid the State of the twin evils
of communalism and casteism as a consequence of which the
development in UP has suffered a serious set back.
Amongst
others who addressed the ex-servicemen were Smt. Sudha Rai,
Congress leader and wife of late Shri Kalp Nath Rai, Shri
Santosh Singh, ex-MP, Shri Suresh Bahadur Singh, president
DCC, Col. Bharat Singh, chairman, UPCC ex-servicemen cell,
the DCC Ex-Servicemen Cell chairman Shri Jai Prakash Singh
who had organized the function extremely well under the
guidance of Col. Bharat Singh. Later, a meeting of minorities
of Mau district was addressed by Dr. Sanjay Singh, Shri
Santosh Singh and Capt. Praveen Davar.
Nearly
400 ex-servicemen gathered at Amar Jawan Jyoti on 16th
December to pay homage to martyrs of 1971 Indo-Pak War.
The ex-servicemen later held a meeting at 24, Akbar Road
and paid rich tributes to late Prime Minister, Smt. Indira
Gandhi under whose dynamic leadership the Armed Forces won
their most decisive victory ever. Besides the chairman,
and secretary AICC Ex-Servicemen Cell those present at the
Amar Jawan Jyoti were Capt. Amrinder Singh, chief minister
of Punjab, Lt. Gen. T.P.S. Rawat, 0Minister for Tourism,
Uttaranchal Government, Col. Zorawar Singh, chairman PPCC
Ex-Servicemen Cell, Col. S.O. Rana, Lt. Col. H.K.L. Anand,
Maj. SK Rana, Maj. T.C. Yadav, chairman, DPCC Ex-Servicemen
Cell and Shri K.C. Verma, Vice-President, DPCC Ex-Servicemen
Cell.
