The
major organizational changes that have been initiated in
the Cabinet and the AICC show the firm resolve of the Congress
Party to gear up its performance at all levels. The Prime
Minister has brought in new faces to the Government to provide
for an efficient government, one that is responsive to the
people and committed to the charter of the coalition. These
goals and aims of the Party were clearly restated by the
Prime Minister in his recent interaction with the media.
He highlighted the excellent achievements of the Congress
Party on the economic front and predicted the possibility
of achieving a GDP of ten per cent soon. The Congress's
focus is not on economic growth alone. The Party has focused
significant attention to social sector development and will
continue to do so. Our principle remains equity with growth.
The Left Parties have gone out of their way to criticize
the government on the Iran Nuclear issue. We would like
to remind the Left that they were at the forefront of those
opposing India's indigenous nuclear programme. It is, therefore,
indeed ironic that today they should be leading champions
defending Iran's nuclear rights. We would like to know which
is the true Left position.
