Tsunami: Mahila Congress Collects Rs. 25 lakhs

To help the Tsunami victims, the All India Mahila Congress has collected a little more than Rs. Twenty Five Lakhs from all over India. The collection campaign started on 31.12.2004, ending on 31.01.2005. The District and City units went door-to-door collecting funds from the citizens, in sealed boxes, which were opened in the presence of five senior office-bearers and converted into Drafts for the "Rajiv Gandhi National Relief and Welfare Trust". AIMC office-bearers also collected cheques and drafts from donors. This amount is handed over to the Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi on February 3 by the Mahila Congress president, Dr. Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

The AIMC also arranged to send necessary relief items like clothing, blankets, utensils, eatables, candles, chappals, toothpaste, etc., worth Rs. 5 Lakhs to Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. State Mahila Congress units of Andaman & Nicobar, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Pondicherry have been working tirelessly in the rehabilitation programmes
