Homage to Indira Gandhi

The Congress Sevadal Incharge, Shri Janardhan Dwivedi being honoured at the Congress Bhawan in Pune

Pune : The All India Congress Committee secretary and in-charge of the All India Congress Sevadal, Shri Janardhan Dwivedi said, "unlike other parties, the Congress party has never disassociated itself from its ideology of secularism, equality and national development."

Dr. Dwivedi was addressing the party members at the Congress Bhawan here on November 8. He said the members of the Sevadal here focussed on social work instead of politics in the last 78 years, which was its basic strength.

Speaking on the occasion, City Congress president Mohan Joshi said that the Congress Sevadal has provided the party with efficient activist trained to work for the good of the people. Others who spoke included Prakash Kale, Chandrakant Dayma and Vishwas Upase. Chandrakant Chhajed, MLA, Aminuddin Penwala, Bharat Sawant and many members of the Sevadal from all parties of the city were also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, on November 19, the City Congress Sevadal organized a torch-light rally for unity and world peace and against terrorism on the occasion of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Sevadal organizing secretary, Shri Chandrashekahar Kapote, paid floral tributes by garlanding the statue of Indira Gandhi. A large number of City Congress leaders were present.

Gearing Up for Panchayat Elections

JAMSHEDPUR : The Congress party is gearing up for the Panchayat and Municipal Council elections scheduled for January in the Jharkhand state. A spate of rallies, yatras and meetings are being held by the East and West Singhbhoom and Saraikela Karsawa District Congress workers, highlighting the misrule of the State Government.

On 19 November, the DCC of East Singhbhoom organized a meeting and chalked out a strategy for the forthcoming elections. Exhorting the party workers, Mr. Ramesh Kumar Shukla, a senior Congress leader urged the activists to unite at Panchyati level. He stressed on hard work to bring victory to the party. "Congress workers should capture maximum numbers of seats." Mr. Shukla reminded that the Congress had toiled hard to realise the dream of three crore people of Jharkhand.

The East Singhbhoom District Congress Committee president, Mr. Ramashrya Prasad, the vice-president, Mr. Gopal Prasad, ex-MLA, Mr. Vishnupal Gosh, Mrs. Safa Sekh, Mr. Sunial Kumar Shukla, Mr. Nand Patel and other local leaders also spoke.

Mahila Cong Camp at Garhwal Bhawan

Congress senior leaders at one-day conference cum training organised by New Delhi District Mahila Congress at Garhwal Bhawan in Delhi

NEW DELHI : The New Delhi District Mahila Congress organised a one-day conference and training camp in the Capital on 5 November, 2001. The aim was to encourage women to join the Congress party and strengthen it by their active support under the able and dynamic leadership of the party president, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.

The function was inaugurated by the senior Congress leader Mr. R.K. Dhawan. Addressing the gathering Mr. Dhawan said that the 33 percent reservation of women in the party hierchy is to be realised not only in Delhi but throughout the country.

The Delhi Chief Minister and the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sheila Dikshit exhorted the women present at the function to speed up their movement to fight for their rights. She repeated Mrs. Sonia Gandhi’s promise of giving tickets to women of the grassroot level in the forthcoming municipal elections.

The New Delhi District Mahila Congress president, Mrs. Asha Balodhi, declared that the NDDMC would organise such functions and training camps at all levels throughout the year to make women aware of their rights.

Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar, MP, Mrs. Tajdar Babbar, MLA and Mrs. Motia Garg, president Delhi Mahila Congress addressed the meeting.
