Centre Delaying Fixing MSP

JALANDHAR : The Central Government by not fixing the minimum support price of wheat, paddy and other crops is bent upon destroying the worsening financial status of the farmers of Punjab, said the Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amrinder Singh while on a tour of Jalandhar district.

According to Jalandhar DCC vice-president and media incharge, Shri Sanjay Sehgal the appeal for minimum support price (MSP) was accepted when the Punjab chief minister had staged a dharna at the residence of the Prime Minister in Delhi. But the farmers in Punjab are facing problem as large stock of sugar is lying in godowns as it cannot be sold as the MSP has not yet been decided. Capt. Amrinder Singh said that he would start a struggle to solve this issue.

Others present on the occasion were DCC chief Tejinder Bittu, local body minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, industry minister Avtar Henry, Revenue minister Amarjit Singh Samra, Technical Education Minister Chaudhary Santokh Singh, Mayor Surendra Mahe, D.P. Sehgal, Chaudhary Surendra Singh, Anil Vashist and Shri Lekhraj Sharma.

One Year in Office Celebrated

JALANDHAR : On completion of one year in office by the Punjab government, a function to mark the occasion was held on 28 February at Kapurthala. AICC general secretary and incharge of Punjab, Smt. Mohsina Kidwai and AICC secretary Maj. Ved Prakash were present at the function.

According to Jalandhar District Congress Committee vice-president and media-incharge, Shri Sanjay Sehgal, under the leadership of Capt. Amrinder Singh the Punjab government has registered 217 cases of corruption in a year, of which nine were against former ministers of Punjab and four IAS officers and others.

Capt. Amrinder Singh said that the former Akali-BJP government did act against the erring clerical staff but left high officials involved in corrupt practices". Others present on the occasion were Punjab PCC president H.S. Hanspal, Balbir Singh, MP, Santosh Chaudhary, cabinet minister Avtar Henry, Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, Mahinder Singh Kaypee, Rana Gurjit Singh, Parneet Kaur, Tejinder Bittoo, Arun Jalota and Surendra Khare.

Protest Dharna

JHANSI : The City Congress Committee staged a dharna in front of the district headquarters here on 20 February against the policies of the Mayawati government. Speaking on the occasion Congress leaders said that dalits, minorities, businessmen and farmers were badly affected during the reign of Mayawati and the state government is exploiting the MLAs by misusing POTA. Shri Rajkumar Nagaich, Shri Imtiaz Hussain, Smt. Rajkumari Gaur, Shri Pushkar Pandit spoke on the occasion. The City Congress president, Shri Pradeep Jain handed over a memorandum to the District Collector addressed to the state Governor.

Protest Against US War

Uttaranchal PCC general secretary Dhirendra Pratap addressing a meeting against US war on Iraq in Roorkee.

ROORKEE : At the call of the Congress state president, Shri Harish Rawat, thousands of party activists held statewide protest demonstrations against the US aggression against Iraq. A large protest demonstration was held at Roorkee in Haridwar district led by state Congress general secretary and chief media coordinator Shri Dhirendra Pratap gathered at Dhandera village and marched raising anti-US and British slogans. The protestors were later addressed jointly by state PCC president, Shri Harish Rawat, MP and Shri Dhirendra Pratap.

Earlier, hundreds of party workers led by state PCC secretary Shri Haji Rao Munna organised a well-attended meeting at Dhandera and similar demonstrations were also held in Dehradun and Haldwani of the Kumaon region.

While the PCC general secretary, Shri S.P. Singh Engineer led the Dehradun protest, the Haldwani protest was led by Shri Prayag Dutt Bhatt, another PCC general secretary.
