Mahila
Congress Report
All the
AIMC office-bearers incharge of various States visited and
toured the respective States extensively to create awareness
amongst women towards the high Congress principles so relevant
in today’s scenario, and the constructive work being done
towards Nation-building and social change under the able
guidance of our leader Smt. Sonia Gandhi. Need and means
for women’s upliftment was exphasised upon. The State Mahila
Congress lists up to District levels were completed were
pending. The Mahila Congress has started extensive grassroot
work in States where Vidhan Sabha elections will be held.
From July 10 to 29, the
AIMC general secretary and incharge of Himachal Pradesh,
Smt. Shikha Kapoor toured the State along with the PMC president
Maj. Krishna Mohini, holding meetings in Nalagarh Block
and Adki Kunihar (Solan District), Sadar and Guhmarvi Block
(Distt. Bilaspur), Mandi, Sundar Nagar and Ballah Blocks.
Meetings were also addressed in Bangar and Kullu Blocks
of Kullu District, Manali, Lahulspiti and Hamirpur, Kangra,
Dharamshala, Darang, Urla, Jwalaji, Chintapurni and Dhara.
Panchayat level meeting in Unna was organized in which Mahila
Congress workers participated actively. The AIMC president
addressed the Mahila meeting at Dharamshala on July 26 and
HP Congress leaders also addressed. It was decided by the
PMC to take out "Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Yatras" in
all Blocks from August 20 to 27.
In Haryana, the PMC president,
Smt. Anita Yadav through the DMC presidents, organized several
demonstrations in various districts over water and electricity
shortage, law and order and other local issues. There was
a demonstration in Faridabad organized by Smt. Sharda Rathore
on June 15 opposing the lay-off of teachers, and need for
more income generating employments. The Ambala Cantt. Mahila
Congress staged a dharna against water and electrictity
shortage while Smt. Santosh Sharma and Kanak Rekha organized
a demonstration in Morni Block (Panchkula) regarding deteriorating
law and order situation, reducing number of jobs, and shortage
of electricity and water.
The Delhi PMC held a five-point
training programme on July 13 addressed by CWC member Mukul
Wasnik, AICC secretaries Susheela Tiria and Mrs. Krishna
Tirath, AIMC vice-president Dr. Rita B. Joshi, and attended
by all PMC office-bearers upto Block level. The Delhi PMC
had several programmes in July on environment awareness,
campaign against polythene bags and planting of trees. The
Rohini DMC president, Ms. Memwati Barvala organized the
first of such programmes on July 15. Ex-MP Sajjan Kumar
was the chief guest, other dignitaries attending were the
Mayor Mrs. Jayshree Panwar, AIMC vice-president Dr. Rita
B. Joshi, PMC president, Mrs. Motia Garg and several Municipal
Councillors. The South Delhi DMC president Mrs. Pawan Sharma
organized one such programme at Malviya Nagar on July 16,
addressed by Dr. Rita Joshi and Mrs Motia Garg. On July
30 the Krishna Nagar Distt. organized another such programme
at Ashok Nagar. The Najafgarh DMC president Mrs. Asha Chaudhury
organized a seminar on "Economic Upliftment of Women
in Rural and Urban Areas" on July 30. The AIMC president
Mrs. Chandresh Kumari was the chief-guest. Other dignitaries
addressing the seminar included Dr. Rita Joshi, Mrs. Motia
Garg, etc. Women were informed of the various government
and non-government facilities and financial help towards
self-help available to them.
The Mahila Congress condoled and extends
its heartfelt sympathies to its ex-Haryana PMC president,
Mrs. Prasanni Devi and her family on the untimely death
of her son.
