Disha - 2002 NSUI Training Camp

The AICC secretary, Shri Ramesh Chennithala, MP, and other leaders at the DISHA-2002 NSUI Training Camp at Tanjavur

Tanjavur : As per the directions of the Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, National Students’ Union of India is organising College Incharges Training Camp in all the states. The Tamil Nadu State NSUI organised "Disha" — ‘A Training Camp of College Incharges’ on 26th & 27th of June, 2002 at Tanjavur for the College Incharges from Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The College Incharges 290 from Tamil Nadu and 37 from Pondicherry participated in the Training Camp.

The Training Camp was inaugurated by Shri Ramesh Chennithala, MP, Secretary, AICC, Independent Charge Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry. The Welcome address of the inaugural function was delivered by the Tenjavur District Congress Committee president, Shri Krishna Swamy Vandayar, and was presided by both the Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry State NSUI presidents, Mr. T.A. Naveen and Mr. Samraj respectively. Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan, president of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, was the Guest of Honour and Shri Ranga Swamy, Chief Minister of Pondicherry was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function.

Shri J.M. Haroon, ex-MLA and G. Jerom Arokiya Raj, president, Trichy District Congress Committee were the special guests. Shri Polur Varadhan, MLA, Shri H. Vasanthkumar, Chairman, TNCC (Trader’s Cell), Shri J. Franklin, Chairman, TNCC (SC/ST Cell), Shri Sidique, Chairman, TNCC (Minority Cell), Shri Dhanasekar, Chairman, TNCC (Literature Cell), Shri Kesavan, Chairman Science & Technology Cell, Shri Balasubramaniam, Shri Pattukottai Rajendran, ex-NSUI president, Shri J. Thiyagarajan, ex-NSUI president and all DCC presidents of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee also attended the inaugural function as guests. Vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Mahendran, vice president, Tamil Nadu NSUI and State Coordinator, DISHA-2002.

After the inaugural function the Training Camp started and it was lectured by the intellectuals and senior political leaders on various topics. Shri Vallasaraj, Minister of Health, Pondicherry, spoke on "Importance of Youth and Students in making Rajivji’s 21st Century Reality". Shri K.Chiranjeevi, ex-President of Tamil Nadu NSUI & Shri Babu Vinod Kumar, National Co-ordinator, DISHA-2002 addressed the Incharges on the "NSUI Organisation". On "Student Movements in Tamil Nadu was the topic of Shri Pazha Karuppiah. In the second session, Shri M. Arunachalam, former Union Minister expressed his views on "Kamaraj Rule when it will become a reality". Shri Thanyai spoke on "NSUI’s role in bringing back Congress Rule in Tamil Nadu". A Ramamurty, Shri Era Anbarasu, ex-MP addressed the College Incharges on the topic of "Whether Dravidian Parties era coming to Close". At the end of the first day a cultural programme was organized.

On the second day the College Incharges went to a play ground to know about Yoga and the 1st session of the day started at 10.00 am. On the topic of "Regional Parties Role in stagnating Tamil Nadu’ growth" was addressed by Shri Tindivanam K. Ramamurthee, former President, TNCC, Shri S. Singaravadivel, ex-MP, Shri R. Rajmohan, secretary TNCC and Shri P. Krishna Moorthy. Shri Manik Tagoor, National vice president of NSUI, Shri Preniel Nair, National general secretary of NSUI and Smt. Rani Venkatesan, president, South Chennai Mahila Congress expressed their views on the topic of "College Incharge’s". On the topic of "Congress Economic Policy & India’s Growth" was addressed by Shri E.M. Sudarsana Natchiapan, MP.

The second session of the DISHA-2002 started after lunch at 2.00 p.m. Shri Iniyan Sampath, ex-President of TNYC & Shri Pon. Vijaya Ragavan, ex-MLA addressed the College Incharges about "Youth & Students Role in the Freedom Movement". On the topic of "Importance of job-oriented Education" was addressed by Shri Laxmi Narayanan, Education Minister, Government of Pondicherry. Smt. Latha Priyakumar, ex-MLA expressed her views on the topic of "Difference between Youth Congress & NSUI".

The Valedictory Function of the DISHA-2002 started at 4.00 p.m. followed by the valedictory speech by Shri Mukul Wasnik, general secretary, AICC, Incharge, Frontal Organisation. Shri V. Narayana Swami, President of Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee, addressed as the Chief Guest and Miss Meenakshi Natarajan, National President of NSUI addressed the College Incharges as the Guest of Honour. Smt. D. Yasodha, Leader CLP, Tamil Nadu & Shri Subramanyan, Deputy Speaker, Pondicherry Assembly also attended as special guests. Shri C.D. Meyappan, President, TNYC & Smt. Vimala Ganeshan, President, TNMC attended as the guests. Vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Vijayaseelan, President, Tuticorin District NSUI.
