Sonia Gandhi Hails Sevadal Work

The Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, being presented a momento at a Sevadal rally at AICC headquarters on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi birth anniversary

The Congress president, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi on 20th August made a scathing attack on the Vajpayee Government charging it with creating problems and crisis for the country as well as acting on the dictates of "narrow-minded" RSS and under pressure of NDA constituents.

"The latest example of its politcal incompetence is the Agra Summit, "Mrs. Gandhi said while inaugurating a national convention of the Congress Sevadal on the occasion of 57th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. She said instead of taking concrete steps for the welfare of the people, the BJP-led coalition is interested only in giving tall promises to the people.

"We are daily witnessing reports about scams and corruption. In most parts of the country, people are concerned about law and order. Incidents in Jammu and Kashmir are making every citizen sad," Mrs. Gandhi said. Mrs. Gandhi regretted that instead of admitting its weaknesses and mistakes, the BJP-led coalition was indulging in blaming others for its shortcomings.

Paying glowing tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, she said the departed leader strived hard for giving a better deal to the Sevadal in order to strengthen the organisation. Expressing satisfaction that the Sevadal is observing next one year as "organisation year", Mrs. Gandhi gave a nine-point action programme for the Sevadal to strengthen the organisation at all levels.
