Let us Unite Again

I am an old freedom fighter. It seems we have forgotten the struggle and sacrifices we had made to achieve independence 54 years ago from the British. Instead of staying together we are splitting our nation in the name of caste, creed and religion. On the occasion of this 54th anniversary of our Independence, I would like to appeal to all my countrymen to come together, like we did under the leadership of Gandhiji during the Quit India movement, leaving behind all our differences to build a great nation.

Sonia Gandhi's Letter Inspires

The Congress President's letter written to the Congress workers is very inspiring. The article on the Assembly election to the Legislative Assemblies in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Assam, Kerala and West Bengal were very interesting and encouraging. The people want political change in the country.

The speech of the Congress President in Amethi (U.P) to the Congress youths in July issue was worth reading. I appreciate the help rendered by the Congress yoth volunteers for the earthquake affected people of Gujarat State.

The standard of Congress Sandesh is commendable. I hope the present pattern of the journal will be continued by the painstaking efforts of the Editorial Board members of the journal.

'Release Jailed Workers'

The District Congress Committee, Auraiya lodged a strong protest with the Uttar Pradesh Governor on 26th June, when the police lathi-charged a Congress delegation which had gone to the office of Deputy Collector to submit a memorandum against the corruption and rape of harijan women in Ghatampur village in Kanpur district. We appeal for the release of Congress workers which includes an old man of 80 years age.
