Letter
to Congress Workers
Dear
Friends,
The
first-ever two-day Convention of the Block and District
Congress Committee presidents and the public rally that
followed were a great success. Grassroot level leaders of
our party came all the way to New Delhi from every part
of the country to attend the Convention and the rally, reflecting
the new dynamism and commitment in the party. We organised
the Convention so that the party workers at the village
level are fully equipped, fully armed, fully prepared to
propagate the Congress point of view and to expose the BJP’s
slanderous propaganda about us and its miserable failures
where it is in power.
We
wanted the delegates to speak out their mind and tell us
fearlessly and frankly the problems they face in the discharge
of their duties and responsibilities. Many delegates wanted
to speak, but only a few could get the opportunity due to
lack of time. I regret this very much. I hope it will be
possible to make it a regular feature of our party.
The
points raised by the delegates will receive close attention
and steps would be taken wherever necessary. The most important
aspect that must be kept in mind is the unity and sense
of purpose. We must honestly ask ourselves what is it that
we give to the Congress and not how much can we extract
from the Congress. It was sense of purpose and commitment
that made us set an example in good governance in the states
being ruled by us. The Congress is the only party in the
country that genuinely works for the welfare of the people
without discrimination and for development of the country.
Our
party has an excellent track record to be proud of. But
we must not rest on laurels. We still have miles to go.
The task ahead is tough and demands discipline and devotion
to succeed. The party has prepared some programmes of action
to make the party much more effective. Your block and district
level leaders will appraise you all about this action plan.
I would like all of you to be well-prepared for the Assembly
elections later this year with single-mindedness.
